Shea Lovan is the Chief Technology Officer for the University of California, Santa Barbara. In his role as the CTO, Shea provides oversight for the campus’s foundational IT services, including networking, IAM, end-user support, cloud services, and data center operations. He also contributes to planning, creating, and implementing UCSB’s IT vision and for the integration of those activities in to the campus’s strategic plan. Shea earned an MBA from Pepperdine University Graziadio Business School’s Presidents and Key Executives program.
Shea has been a member of the UC Santa Barbara community since he was an undergraduate. His over 30 years of experience in IT at UCSB includes support for research, instructional, and administrative units in several campus departments and organized research units. From 2021 – 2022, he served as UCSB’s Interim Chief Information Officer. Prior to that appointment, he led the Cloud and Identity Services Department and, working in concert with other campus leaders, developed UCSB’s multi-vendor Cloud Computing strategy and led its technical implementation to create an environment supporting academic and administrative workloads.
In addition to his efforts at UCSB, Shea is an active member of the Santa Barbara community. He has been president of Santa Barbara Science Fair, Inc., since 2007, organizing and operating the county’s science and engineering fair. Shea is also a board member and past Commodore of the Santa Barbara Sea Shells Association, a family-oriented youth sailing organization.
